Sonya Côté at the Reservoir Lounge - If you weren't there Tuesday evening, you should have been. Sonya made her Reservoir Lounge debut with her trademark mix of classic French standards, jazz and even western swing. She threw in some Patsy Cline and another country tune for the "cowboy from Pennsylvania" (you had to be there).
Personally, I go for the traditional French pieces, maybe because I don't get to hear that style of music live very often, or maybe because music in a language that isn't one's native tongue adds a level of mystique. Whatever the reason, add a performer who puts the audience at ease, mix in a powerfully flowing voice backed by talented musicians and... well, you may have found a better way to spend your Tuesday after work hours, but I doubt it.
Watch for her new CD to be released shortly.
